The 2026 seminar and workshop programme is online

25 seminars and workshops are ready to book. From night photography on the Danube Canal and two days with ibex on the Hohe Wand to video editing for your first reel.

You can book now. 25 seminars and workshops are online, with dates, prices and everything you need to bring. Places are limited: for the workshops, there are between 6 and 12 depending on the format. If you decide early, you have the choice.

Good to know: the fair ticket is already included in the price of every workshop. It is automatically added to your cart when you buy, so you don’t need to book it separately.

At the same time, the website looks different from last year. Alongside the Photo and Adventure themes, there are now Journeys: starting points that guide you through the programme by your interests rather than by room or time. You can read how this works and what else has changed in the post on the new website.

Understanding light, in theory and practice

If you can read light, you take better photos. On Saturday morning, Matthias Pall from Melinastudios shows you in Discover the World of Natural Light how to use natural light deliberately instead of just accepting it. If you then feel like putting it into practice, head straight outside with him on the Light Walk. Here too, the seminar ticket is included in the workshop price and is automatically added to your cart.

Bernhard Schubert takes a similar approach, only at close range. On Sunday, his seminar Blitzeinsatz in der Makrofotografie explains why flash so often fails in macro photography and how to get it right. In the practical part you work with your own camera. Important: if you book the workshop, we add the seminar ticket for free automatically.

In Lichtformer in der Portraitfotografie, Robert Pichler explores why a large softbox can cast harder shadows than a small one. In LED-Licht statt Blitz, Gerhard Zimmert shows what modern LED lights can do these days and when they really replace flash.

Two programme items take you outside for the topic. On Friday evening, Alexander Müller photographs the Wiener Donaukanal bei Nacht, with long exposures and a light painting session in front of the Urania. And in Light Action in der Burg Mödling, Anselm F. Wunderer lights up the old castle ruin with torches and colour patterns, right in the knights’ hall.

You will find more of this in the Journey Seeing, light & inspiration.

People in front of the camera

Many people have mastered the technology. Reaching the people in front of the camera is the other half of the job. Magdalena Schicho devotes two seminars to it, one on Fotografieren mit Kindern and one on Fotografieren mit Menschen. They are about trust, about stress and about why a calm set produces better pictures than a perfectly planned one.

It gets more hands-on with Robert Pichler, who deliberately throws the rules overboard in Fashion Avantgarde, and with Roland Pum, who works with unusual materials in two workshops: Nailed it with 3D-printed fingernails and claws, and Paper Art with paper as a design element for full-body shots.

The highlight: two days on the Hohe Wand

One workshop stands out because it takes place before the fair. On 7 and 8 November you travel with Bernhard Schubert to the Hohe Wand, stay overnight at the Alpengasthof Postl and spend two days out with your camera. In November the chances of mist are good, plus sunsets, a starry sky if it is clear and, above all, the ibex, which are surprisingly unafraid there.

Six places, no more. Two to four weeks later there is a joint online review of your pictures.

If you would rather have animals explained to you up close first: Manfred Hesch is a hunter, falconer and wildlife photographer, and on Saturday in Abenteuer Wildtierfotografie he shows pictures, films and stories from stalking with the camera. Foxes, wolves, red deer, birds of prey and ospreys included.

The Journey Animals & nature brings together everything on the topic.

From raw material to finished image

In two workshops, Armin Amano works with you on your own files: Anatomie eines Architekturfotos and Nachtlandschaften fotografieren. Both times from RAW development to the final finish, either the classic way or with AI support. Bring your laptop, and your own images too, otherwise he provides RAW files.

In Bring deinen Lightroom-Workflow aufs nächste Level, Alexander Müller tackles image management: selecting faster, organising better, editing more efficiently. In the last part he looks at the participants’ pictures.

Things get moving with Valentin Macke and Cliff Kapatais. In Vom Rohmaterial zum Reel, Macke edits a video live in DaVinci Resolve that works on Instagram or TikTok, explicitly for beginners with no prior knowledge. In The Moving Image, Kapatais shows how you get photos and cinematic video clips from a single setup, without a film crew and without mountains of equipment.

When photography is or is to become your profession

Marion Payr has been making a living from travel photography for ten years, and in Reisefotografie als Beruf she talks straight about fees, usage rights, positioning and winning clients.

You will find both in the Journey Photography as a profession.

And the view behind it

Three programme items are less about technology than about seeing itself. In Die Kraft des Sehens, Günter Zöhrer asks why conscious seeing changes more than any new camera, and in Die 4 Fotozeiten he shows that an image begins long before you press the shutter. In Komposition & Bildwirkung, Gerhard Zimmert uses example images to explain how composition works and when breaking the rules makes for the better picture.

Still to come

The free talks programme will follow in the coming weeks. The talks are included in your admission ticket and run in parallel in several talk rooms on both days.

Update: The talks programme is now online. We introduce the speakers who are on stage for the first time in 2026 in the post New this year: speakers you can see for the first time in 2026.

Seminars and workshops have limited places. If something catches your eye, don’t wait for the rest of the programme.
