Mist over the floodplain. The meadow behind the house that looks different every month. Or the moment when a person and an animal look at each other for a few seconds. These are exactly the images we are looking for in the Photo+Adventure 2026 photo competition, which we are organising together with CEWE. The theme: “Nature and us”.

You can submit up to ten photos until 4 October 2026. We will show the 20 best images at the fair in November, and the prizes include a professional monitor from EIZO, a Tamron voucher worth 500 euros and much more.

What it’s about

The focus is on the relationship between us humans and nature. It doesn’t have to be the wilderness of Alaska, the city park or your own garden tell just as much. Where do we encounter nature? Where do we show consideration, where do we push our way in? Where does it take something back?

Whether a quiet macro, an animal portrait, a landscape or a scene with people: show us your view of this coexistence.

The theme of the whole fair

“Nature and us” is also the focus topic of Photo+Adventure 2026. Christine Sonvilla and Marc Graf, biologists, nature photographers and filmmakers, are showing “Born to be wild”, an exhibition on the WWF campaign of the same name about living alongside lynx, beavers, otters and co. There are also talks and discussions on the question of what photography can do for nature conservation. You will find all programme items on the topic in the Journey Animals & nature. We introduce some of the nature photographers who are new to the programme in 2026 in the post on the new speakers 2026. You will soon find more details on the focus topic on our website.

The prizes

The top three receive equipment that will take your nature photography further straight away:

1st place: EIZO ColorEdge CS2400S. A 24-inch graphics monitor that covers 99 percent of the AdobeRGB colour space and is factory-calibrated. So what you see on screen is what later comes out in print.

2nd place: Tamron voucher worth 500 euros for the Tamron online shop, for your next lens.

3rd place: NYA-EVO Fjord 36 with RCI kit. A photo backpack for the road with a removable camera insert, which also passes as hand luggage.

4th place: Haida Magnetic Filter Kit. Graduated filter, polarising filter and two ND filters with a magnetic adapter, for quick filter changes outdoors.

In addition, all top 20 receive an annual subscription to the photo magazine FOTOobjektiv. Participants from Austria also receive a CEWE voucher for photo products worth between 30 and 100 euros.

The jury

Places 1 to 20 are awarded by an expert jury that works closely with the topic:

Christine Sonvilla and Marc Graf, nature photographers and wildlife filmmakers whose images have appeared in National Geographic

Verena Popp-Hackner and Georg Popp, landscape photographers and the people behind the project “Wiener Wildnis”

Klaus Lorbeer, editor-in-chief of FOTOobjektiv

Oliver Bolch, travel photographer and organiser of Photo+Adventure

Monika Vanova, ambassador for photo culture at CEWE

The images are judged on their photographic quality, meaning sharpness, exposure and composition, and on how well the idea behind the image fits the theme. From all entries, we first make a preselection of the 200 best images, which are then presented to the jury. There is also a public vote.

How to take part

You must have taken the photos yourself. If people are recognisable, you need their consent, and for children that of their parents.

Entries only online on the competition page

Deadline: 4 October 2026 at the latest

Up to 10 photos per person

Format: JPEG, at least 1,920 × 1,080 pixels, at most 22 MB

Keep the original file ready in case your image is requested for the exhibition or for print

Single images only; no collages, frames, watermarks or text

Award ceremony and exhibition

The winners will be notified by email and published on the competition page. We invite the top 20, each with one companion, to Photo+Adventure. The award ceremony takes place on Saturday 14 November 2026 at the Pyramide Vienna/Vösendorf, where we show all 20 winning photos in an exhibition.

Submit your image now

There is still time until 4 October.
